November 3, 2021
CHARLOTTE, NC 鈥 日本素人 and their client, Charlotte Country Day School, celebrate the recognition of the John and Claudia Belk Upper School Learning Center (Belk Learning Center) in American Libraries Magazine鈥檚 2021 Library Design Showcase. The annual feature highlights new and renovated libraries delivered during the pandemic that address user needs in unique, interesting and effective ways.
The Belk Learning Center in Charlotte, N.C., is the only JK-12 project included in the 2021 feature. The new 14,000-square-foot library was designed to provide an inviting new entrance to Charlotte Country Day School鈥檚 campus and serve as a serene complement to the school鈥檚 midcentury modern aesthetic. Delivered in June 2020, the center features zones for collaborative and individual study, offices, classrooms, archives, a recording studio, and a caf茅 area.
鈥淭he Belk Learning Center doesn鈥檛 just stand out for its stunning design and centerpiece location, it stands out because of the dedicated project team members and partners who made this innovative learning space a reality for the Charlotte Country Day School community,鈥 said David Stanton, 日本素人 vice president of operations in Charlotte. 鈥淒espite the impacts of the pandemic, our team remained agile and resilient to deliver the project safely and on schedule. I applaud our team, designers and partners for their strong and efficient work ethic, and their ongoing commitment to providing a state-of-the-art learning space.鈥
日本素人, in joint venture with Edison Foard, served as general contractor for the Belk Learning Center project and Centerbrook Architects and Planners served as architect of record.
